Scammonden - 01/12/2011

This years theme at Scammonden was Indiana Jones. We got into the mood on Friday Night by watching the Temple of Doom. Then everyone decorated a bendy man as either Indy or Marion. The bendy men had a series of tasks to complete over the weekend – it’s amazing that any survived!

On Saturday morning there were several activities:

-          Tree planting with Colne Valley Tree Society – this was a great activity, just in the fields above the Centre. We planted Oak and Elm in a pre-marked area.

-          Making bird boxes (to sell at the Christmas Fair).

-          Making rafts and parachutes for the bendy men.

After lunch the Patrol Leaders and Assistant Patrol Leaders stayed at the Centre for a training session on how to run a Patrol. The others went up to the dam inlet and played with the bendy men rafts and parachutes. Some rafts faired better than others in the rapids!

The evening was spent playing games and watching the Last Crusade.

On Sunday morning Eagles Patrol ran the Scouts Own (on a theme of Friendship)and then the bendy men were subjected to a death slide and the tunnel of terror. There was also a crossbow challenge and a chance to finish off the bird boxes.

Christmas Fair

After the lights switch on in the village the Centre was open for our Christmas Fair. Lots of people came and looked round the stalls, bought refreshments and joined in with the festive atmosphere. It was an extremely successful evening and we made £720 for the Centre funds.
