Jamboree on the Internet - 30/10/2011
4th Golcar Scout Group joined the thousands of Scouts from all around the world for the 15th Annual Jamboree on the Internet.

Jamboree on the Internet runs on the same weekend as Jamboree on the Air, the third weekend of October. The event allows any of the 30 million scouts from all around the world to contact each other using different methods of technology.
This was our first Jamboree on the Internet weekend held at Golcar Scout and Community Centre.
The weekend started at 10am on Saturday morning with the Explorer Scouts using IRC (Internet Relay Chat) using the servers dedicated to Scouting provided by ScoutLink. The Explorers got the list of countires off to a great start and we started to plot them on the map of the world.
At 1pm the Cubs arrived and along with speaking to Scouts from all around the world using the internet, they completed their Stage 1 ICT activity badge, learnt sign language and attempted to send a message to another room in our Scout centre using morse code over a telegraph system.
Once the Cubs had left it was then time for the Scouts to arrive for their JOTI sleepover, the Scouts also completed their Stage 1 ICT activity badge, with some Scouts attempting their Stage 2 ICT badge during the weekend. The Scouts also used morse code to send messages across the Scout Centre using the telegraph, and spoke to many Scouts from all corners of the world.
The Scouts tweeted that they had spoken with Scouts from Portugal, Denmark, the Netherlands, Turkey, Australia, Italy, South Africa, New Zealand, Vietnam, and Mexico!
Everyone had a great time and we can't wait for next year's event!
