District Camping Competition - 05/10/2011
After three weeks of planning the weekend of the competition finally arrived. Four Patrols were entered – Stags, Lions, Kestrels and Owls (some had members from other Patrols to make up numbers).
We arrived at Bradley Wood and set up camp – each Patrol sorting out their own tents, patrol area, equipment and food.
On Saturday the competition got going with teams roping off their Patrol areas and making gadgets. Each meal was judged and points were awarded for timeliness, originality and presentation. After lunch the gadgets and general site tidiness were judged – at this point two Patrols started to creep ahead on the points.
Saturdays evening meal had to be three courses and had to be prepared on an open fire. The standard of food was good, although some of the timings went a bit awry!
In the evening we had a camp fire with each Patrol providing two songs. These were judged and points were awarded.
On Sunday morning we had Scouts Own followed by inspection of site, kit and food storage. Lunch was the final meal to be judged and then the last points of the day were awarded for teamwork during the decking of the sites.
All the Patrols did really well – but there had to be a winner – congratulations go to Stags who came first by just 1.5 points!
