Summer Adventure - 15/08/2011

In Cubs over Summer we always try to have different events to the usual meeting nights. This Summer we've had 3 trips out from the centre being as adventurous as possible.

Evening Walk Around Golcar

We started back in July with an evening walk around our village and local area. From our HQ we made our way to Wellhouse (loads of down hill, sadly followed by loads of uphill). However as an added bonus we saw some chickens at the top while we were having a breather which the Cubs loved! We carried on with more up hill to Bolster Moor, when we finally made it to the top we continued through Heath House Woods and back to the HQ.

Low Ropes Course and Cresta Run

The week after we went down to our local campsite Bradley Wood to have an evening on the Low Ropes Course and Cresta Run. After arriving we had to have a safety talk and put on our helmets and then we were off! We split up into groups, some people played on the Cresta Run and the rest on Low Ropes. Towards the end of the meeting everybody met back up and played "Lava Tig" before being collected after an evening of fun.

Geocaching

Finally we had a special vistor from the Explorers. Duane came to teach us all about Geocaching. Geocaching is an international game of hiding and seeking caches full of treasure! Duane told us all about the equipment that he uses while Geocaching and about the rules.

We set off from our HQ towards Heath House Woods to hunt for the first cache by following an arrow on the GPS! After a while we ended up in a secluded wooded area, Duane told us that the cache was really close so we started hunting! Behind trees, under leaves, in holes, under rocks, high and low until we found it! We all looked at what was inside, put one of our group badges in and signed the log book.

We then continued further in the wood to find our second cache. This one was special! It was a brand new cache that Duane had placed himself and so we were the first people to find it. Inside we placed our "Travelbug". This is a tracked token that will hopefully travel around the world! In the coming months if it moves anywhere interesting we'll give you an update as to where its moved.

A fantastic evening, many thanks to Duane!
