Another update from the Jamboree site - 02/08/2011

Day 5

Day 5 started an hour early (11pm) with the start of the first night shift. We were on foot patrol which was quite good for keeping you awake. Everything was quiet until around 3am when the participants left dream forest after their dream activities. Things remained quiet until the mosquitoes came out to play around 5am. The shift ended at 7am then it was a quick breakfast in the biggest restuarant in sweden! before heading off to bed.

Later that day I went for a walk around the jamboree site, its huge! Things take so long to get to on foot, its around a 30min walk from corner to corner of the site!

A number of members of the IST from the North East of England headed down to the UK Food house for our evening meal, hot beef sandwiches and chips! Much better than the fish curry or whatever it was in the adult restuarant this evening...

Day 6

Today started slow, with not being on duty until 3pm, it gave me time to relax and catch up on the sleep from the night shift yesterday.

After lunch we went for a walk around time avenue, here there are tents for each of the national scout organizations. The UK Pavilion is an inflatable tent with crazy golf in! They also gave out pieces of Rock with the uk contingent writen in it! Nice!

Todays shift was split in two, due to the lighthouse ceremony at the main arena, so we headed down to the arena for crowd control, this mainly involved stopping people walking through the special guest area, and the forest where the radio masts were. We then finished the shift at the north gate after having our dinner. The night included a few people who were still arriving at the jamboree and checkin was closed till the morning, but we managed to get them ID cards for entry to the site.

Day 7

Today was my day off!!! Whooooooooooo!

I spent most of the day wandering around the jamboree site taking alook around all the national contingent tents. I visited Japan and saw some information about the next World Scout Jamboree! in 2015!!! Then on to the Boy Scouts of America tent to find out information about the 24th World Scout Jamboree in 2019!!! Nothing like forward planning!

I also went up the tower today, Webcam 5 is located on the tower, so i managed to get a few photos which i'll upload when i get back to the UK.

Day 8

Today was a very early start, 7am at the Security / Safety meeting tent! This was the start of the 7am-3pm shift. We were assigned the south gate, which was very busy, as every coach entering the site for the start of the Camp in Camp activity came through this gate.

What is camp in camp? Well.... Participants are leaving the jamboree site to spend a night with Swedish Scouts who are having their summer camps within 2 hours of the jamboree site! Other participants are taking part in the Hike in Camp activity which is a full day hike around the countryside of Rinkaby.

It was so hot today that the road outside the south gate actually melted!

Today is also Aug 1st! Yorkshire Day and Swiss National Day!

I can't believe its now a year since we were celebrating Yorkshire Day in Kandersteg! How quick does time fly!

Happy Yorkshire Day everyone back in Yorkshire!

We met together with other members of the North East of England region IST again tonight, and took a walk around the site, including the Jamboree Shop! We got back to the Spring campsite (the adult subcamp) just as the rain started! It was only a quick shower, but apparently it never rained at the other side of the site where the uk food house is! Just shows how big this site really is!

Day 9

Today I don't start work until 11pm so it's very much like a day off.

I started the day taking a look around the main square again, before getting a bus in to Kristianstad the near by city.

It was great to get some real food again!!! Oh not to mention the huge ice cream!

I'll try and keep a little more up to date but let's hope its not too hot tomorrow otherwise i'll be unable to sleep after another night shift!!!
