Latest update from the Jamboree site in Sweden - 29/07/2011

Day 3

Today was main arrivals day, the total number of people on site went from around 10,000 to approx 39,000 in the space of 24 hours! I think the record was one coach every 4 mins!!!

Today was also the first shift i would be working as a Security steward. My shift started at 7am, which means an early start of 6am! I was on the north gate today, this gate was the main exit gate for all the coaches that were dropping off all the contingents. The gate also acts as the entry and exit point for the IST car park. We also saw the UK Contingent Management Team who all arrived through this gate after spending time in Copenhagen with the participants for their pre-event party! After lunch our patrol was on foot patrol, meaning we got the chance to look around the site while everyone was arriving, and making sure they put their tents in the correct places.

In the afternoon I took a walk around the site to see what else was going on.

Towards the end of the day we (IST from West Yorkshire) went on a little walk to try and find the West Yorkshire Contingents, quite hard finding two contingents of 40 people each in a crowd of 39,000! We did manage to find them, and they were all set up and ready to start their adventures! We also took a walk around the food houses, the UK food house was still being constructed but we visted the irish food house where there was a live band

Day 4

Today was the opening ceremony (at 9pm) so the day was mainly used by the participants to construct their gate ways to the campsites, and also complete any other setting up.

I managed to find a member of my security team from the World Scout Jamboree in 2007, who is in Sweden with the cornwall contingent. We just now need to track down two other people (Both IST) who were part of our team. Easier said than done, one of them is from America and their contingent managent team do not have a list of everyone who is on the site.... useful...

The Opening ceremony was great, Bear Grylls gave a great speach to the scouts of the world while offically handing over to the Swedish for their Jamboree.
