On Ilkley Moor Bah Tat - 01/03/2011

On Sunday 20th February 7 Explorers, 3 Leaders and 1 dog went on a Sunday Day Walk on a very snow covered Ilkley Moor. We caught the train from Hudderfield to Ilkley with a change in Leeds. The group walked up to the Twelve Apostles Stones a ancient Bronze Age stone circle set on the bleak moorland. Once at the circle the group had lunch and put up a storm shelter - a great way to keep warm on the cold snow coved moors
The Explorers also found 2 Geocaches on the way to the circle, one Geocache was called “Your mission if you choose to accept”. This geocache was a toolbox with a screwdriver, fishing rope and torch. We then had to follow another set of coordinates which took us to a huge gap in-between a rock where we had to use the tools to fish out the cache from the hole! Great fun!
The group then walked over to the famous Cow and Calf rocks which provided great views looking over Ilkely. The rocks were full of old carvings and graffiti which some of them dated back to the 18 century.
