Beaver and Parent Weekend Away! - 30/08/2010

This year’s Beaver and Parent camp had taken on a Dinosaur theme. So, Scammonden was filled with dinosaur crafts, ready for Beavers and Parents to get involved in during the weekend!

Beavers arrived at 7pm, all excited and ready for the weekend. The first task for the beavers was to find their bedrooms, all the rooms were named after dinosaurs, and Beavers had to go and sort out their bedding! This was quickly done, and so everyone made their way upstairs, where everyone was welcomed to camp! After a quick welcome meeting, letting everyone know the do’s and don’ts, Beavers started to watch a film ... ICE AGE 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs!

After the film, it was time for bed, and surprisingly all Beavers went to Bed, and were asleep soon after. Whoever said Beavers make a lot a noise?

Saturday morning, was however, an early start. 6am, was when first of the Beavers woke up, much to the parents and leaders disapproval, but oh well! After Breakfast, it was time for the first of the crafts. Beavers and parents made wooden dinosaurs, this came flat, had to be painted and built up to look like dinosaurs.

A quick drink and then time for the dam trail. We all got our outdoor kit on, and made our way around the dam. After a quick photo at the compass point, we continued, and everyone enjoyed the nice walk and Beavers were looking in the dam trying to find the sea dinosaur that lives there.

When we got back, Lunch was ready for us, after lunch we did some colouring, and waited for our afternoon visitors to arrive! When they arrived, it was time for the afternoon crafts. Crafts this afternoon included:

  • Making Dinosaur Masks – These were very realistic, and Beavers scared their parents with these!
  • Mosaics – Beavers built up a foam dinosaur pictures using foam mosaic pictures!
  • Paper Plate Dinosaurs
  • Dinosaur Bookmarks
  • Dinosaur Biscuit Making
  • Flying Dinosaurs
  • And not forgetting Face painting!

Beavers and parents, got stuck in and made an armful of crafts! Biscuit making was of course a popular base.

Tea followed the afternoon crafts, which was jacket potatoes followed with Jelly and Ice cream. Yum Yum Yum!!! After tea, we waved bye to the visitors, and then had family quizzes. Beavers and Parents got very competitive and a great time was had by everyone! It was once again Bed time for Beavers, so after supper and a bed time story, off to Bed they went. End of a fantastic day!

Sunday was not as early as Saturday. We all got up in our time, had breakfast, and then started crafts. More activities and crafts were set up around the centre. Mid morning, we had a game of pass the parcel, where a really cool dinosaur book was the prize. Before lunch, we went out to have a flying dinosaur competition. Beavers built up flying dinosaurs, and then flew them across the playing area.  The competition was very close, and two beavers walked away with a dinosaur prize. We then got the parachute out and played some parachute games, which was really cool, especially as it was quite windy.  We then made our way back to the centre and had our lunch. After lunch it was time to clean the centre, and so Beavers had the chance to go on the climbing wall. This then brought us to the end of the camp, Badges were awarded and a group photo was taken.

Everyone had a great time, and can’t wait for next year’s camp!
