District Scout Camp - 13/07/2010
The 2010 Huddersfield South West District Scout camp was attended by almost all Groups. It was held at Bradley Wood on the weekend of 2 – 4 July.
Golcar had a record 36 Scouts on camp!
The old patrol tents and the bell tent had their annual outing and the site looked very impressive and traditional.
Friday evening was taken up with setting up the site and stories around the fire, we also picked the teams for the weekends big event – ‘I’m a Scout, Get Me Out of Here!’
Breakfast on Saturday was bacon sandwiches and cereals. Those not helping with cooking began collecting wood and making washing up stands and other gadgets.
At 10.00am it was the District competition – ‘I’m a Scout, Get Me Out of Here’. Golcar entered three teams of 5 – other Groups made a total team entry of 14. The challenges included: human knot, lawn darts, mucky lucky dip, hoop throw, go carts, feeling objects, tea pot blowing, coconut shie and the ever popular eating of various bugs, insects and other unsavoury items! The competition went really well – although some people enjoyed some of the challenges more than others! The competition was won by Crosland Moor Scout Troop – well done to them.
Those that didn’t take part in the competition did fire lighting and knife training.
After a buffet lunch was the second District event of the weekend – Laser tag. Teams competed in the woods with laser guns, using trees, bomb holes and vegetation as cover. The competition took up most of the afternoon and the Scouts clearly thoroughly enjoyed it.
Tea was cooked on the fires – chicken stir fry and savoury rice, with fruit pies and cream for pudding.
In the evening we went to the main site camp fire.
On Sunday we had sausage sandwiches and cereals for breakfast, then we set about decking the tents – just in case it was to rain later. Also during the morning we did axe and saw training for the new Scouts and we also played wide games.
The rain stayed off luckily so we got everything back dry – always a bonus on camp!
