Yorkshire Wildlife Park - 06/07/2010

For this year’s district trip, the Beavers went to Yorkshire Wildlife Park at Doncaster. We all met in the town centre bright and early ready for the day ahead. After waving goodbye to our parents, we set off! And after only 5 minutes, the Beavers were asking the same old question; ‘are we there yet?’

When we arrived, we explored the park! There was an array of animals for us to look at yet. First, a favourite of many (especially the Leaders) were Meer cats! They really do look like Alexander from compare the Meer cat! We then look at a few more animals, and saw a giant rabbit,  then we entered the woods to do a wildlife trail! We then entered a Lemur wood, where we were face to face with Lemurs. After we entered the Wallaby walkabout, we entered at the right time as we were allowed to feed the wallabies, which look very similar to Kangaroos! By this time it was lunchtime for the Beavers as well, so we stopped and had lunch and all got treat to an Ice lolly.

After lunch we went to the most exciting part of the park... the lion country. We learnt about the lions that had been rescued from Romania and saw them all sunbathing in the glorious sun! Luckily for us, the lions were in a huge compound, but had lots of space to roam around in! For the rest of the afternoon we continued to look around and saw all sorts of animals, including camels, zebras and red river hogs. We finished the day by stroking goats!

A fun day was had by all, and we saw lots of animals that are normally only seen on the TV.
