Geocaching and BBQ - 15/06/2010

This week 4th Golcar Explorers had a different type of event which we've never had before (despite district events) - a joint meeting with another explorer unit!

We met in Merry Dale with 43rd Crosland Moor Explorers & introduced ourselves. We explained what Geocaching was, as the majority of them were unfamiliar with the term. Geocaching is a worldwide game of hiding and seeking treasure. A geocacher can place a geocache in the world, pinpoint its location using GPS technology and then share the geocaches existence and location online. Anyone with a GPS device can then try to locate the geocache.

We set out to find 3 geocaches set about in the local area that were created & placed by our own leader - Ben! We found them with ease thanks to Ben's GPS and Edd's accurate clue following. We signed all the books to register that we had found them, looked at the goodies inside and then headed back to our meeting point.

We got back to find our BBQ cooking away nicely, ate and then wrapped up the meeting. It was a fun evening and hope we can do more in the future!
