Can you tell us about your Scouting History?

Well it all began many moons ago when I joined Longwood cubs at 8. This was a pre beaver time. I loved cubs and enjoyed all the activities and still have many happy memories of my time as a cub. I then moved onto scouts at Longwood and became the first scout in the Huddersfield south west district to gain both the chief scouts award and the chief scouts challenge. It was while working for these awards that I became a cub leader at Milnsbridge. In those days each group didn’t have an explorer section so I moved to the 3rd Crosland moor to join the venture section. It was here that I first met Craig. I continued to work with Milnsbridge before work commitments got in the way.

After a short while I was invited back to Longwood as a cub leader which I did for many years until again work got in the way and I stepped down.

I have been out of scouting for a number of years, although my oldest son is currently a cub and the youngest about to become a beaver. Earlier this year I received a call from Craig asking if I would be interested in helping him out in the cub section, and I said yes and I think they say the rest is history!

Where is your favourite Campsite?

Difficult one! I guess Bradley wood has to be high on the list as I have been so much and even know some of the site team by first name. Hesley wood at Sheffield has good memories as it was my first camp as a scout, but I have also been to a site on the side of lake Coniston that I cant remember the name of, but its so basic its great its like real back to basics and you can always walk from your tent into the lake for a morning swim!

What is your favourite Scouting activity?

I love sailing, pot holing, and mapping (even though am rubbish at bearings) but I think I have got to say over all it must be camping. I also think for a leader point of view it’s a great bonding experience for your section but also you with your section

What is your most memorable Scouting experience?

I have so many, I think the most recent one was the phone call from Craig asking me to help out, it has re energised me and made me realise what I have been missing over the last few years and how great scouting is

What food do you like?

I will try anything once, and yes I do mean anything, I love chicken and I also make a mean chilli

Do you have a favourite quote?

‘Scouting is only one night a week’ – don’t know who said it but they were a liar
