Can you tell us about your Scouting History?

I started Scouting at the age of 6, when I joined Beavers at 39th Parkwood (Huddersfield) Scout Group. It wasn't untill 1998 when I moved groups to join 4th Golcar as a Scout. My first camp with 4th Golcar was to Walesby Forest Scout Campsite for a whole week!

I continued through the sections moving to the newly formed Explorer Scout Unit where I completed my Duke of Edinburgh's Awards (Bronze, Silver and Gold) and also gained my Queen's Scout Award. During my time as an Explorer Scout I became a young leader with the Cub section and when I became 18, I joined the section as an Assistant Cub Scout Leader.

During 2007 I attended the National Scout Parade at Windsor and also joined 10,000 other adults on the International Service Team at the 21st World Scout Jamboree in Hylands Park, Chelmsford, Essex.

In June 2008 I joined the Scout section as an Assistant Scout Leader.

What's your most memorable Scouting Experience?

Well its got to be 2007 - Scouting's Centenary Year!
WindsorThe National St Georges Day Parade in Windsor for Queen Scout Award Holders was something I'll never forget. The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh attended the parade and inspected all the Queen Scouts.
District Group Centenary Camp - Each group was a Country, Golcar was Egypt, we had the Nile, a Pyramid and even an Egyptian Tomb!
JamboreeThe 21st World Scout Jamboree! What an Experience! 180 Counties, Over 32,000 Scouts, 10,000 Adult Volunteers created a very memorable Sunrise Ceremony on the 1st August 2007. A Live Satellite TV Link to Brownsea Island for a mass Promise renewal at 8am was one of the most memorable, the whole jamboree site coming to a halt and over 42,000 people renewing their promise at the same time!
I was working as a Steward during the Jamboree, that involved checking everyone was wearing their ID cards at all times, controlling access to the site at any of the 8 gates, assisting the Emergency Services around the site and also as you can imagine with over 42,000 people on site CROWD CONTROL!
Summer Camp - Ross Wood, Kent - this week long camp involved visits to Dover Castle, Battle (The Site of the Battle of Hastings) and a day trip to FRANCE! Whooooo!
Live 07 - The Festival of Scouting - this was similar to a gang show, But much bigger - live in the O2 Arena, London.

So all in all, 2007 was a great year, and a great start to our second Centenary!
